The third workshop of the Mentor Project took place on the weekend of 2–4 October 2020 at the Hotel Resort Villa Favorita in Marsala. The theme of the workshop was “Verso lezioni che privilegino lo sviluppo di capacità critiche: Come migliorare l’efficacia delle lezioni (anche a distanza?)”. On the first day, the activities began with a speech by Prof. Ivano Eberini (University of Milan), who gave a presentation entitled “La didattica a distanza tramite teams”. This was followed by the first part of a roundtable discussion entitled “Il progetto mentore dopo sette anni: cosa cambiare e cosa migliorare?”.
On the second day, Professor Monica Fedeli and Concetta Tino (University of Padua) gave a talk entitled “Active Learning, Feedback e Valutazione on air”, followed by the second part of the roundtable discussion. In the afternoon, there were distance learning seminars on “Creating Social Presence for Remote Learning” (taught by Prof. Kevin Gannon, Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and Professor of History at Grand View University in Iowa) and “Online Teaching Basics to Help Students Engage and Learn” (taught by Prof. Flower Darby of Northern Arizona University).
On Sunday 4 October, the professors. Giuseppe Silvestri and Andrea Cozzo, addressed the question, “Verso lezioni universitarie che privilegino lo sviluppo di capacità critiche rispetto alla trasmissione di contenuti?”. In the second half of the morning, the professors Simona Feci and Renato Lombardo, supported by Prof. Elena Mignosi, delivered two mini-lectures designed to develop critical thinking skills rather than focus on content transmission. This was followed by a roundtable discussion, after which the conclusions were presented and the event closed with greetings.
All the activities involved the project’s promotional committee, consisting of Marcella Cannarozzo and Fabio Caradonna, Enrico Napoli, Francesco Pace, Gianluca Scaccianoce e Nuccio Scialdone, who acted as moderators for the various speakers.
