The Project “Mentore per la didattica” was established in 2013 by professors Onofrio Scialdone, Enrico Napoli, Gianluca Scaccianoce and Alessandro Galia.
In the first year, the project involved the voluntary participation of engineering teachers and had around twenty participants. Stefano Beccari and Alessandro Busacca, , Marcella Cannarozzo, Andrea Cipollina, Giuseppe Ciraolo, Pietro Paolo Corso, Sandro Di Maio, Maria Luisa Di Silvestre, Elisa Francomano, Alessandro Galia, Mariarosa Giardina, Caterina Grillo, Franco Grisafi, Enzo La Carrubba, Giorgio Micale, Massimo Morale, Enrico Napoli, Valerio Noto, Gianluca Scaccianoce, Francesca Scargiali, Onofrio Scialdone, Salvatore Stivala e Francesco Viola.
The first in-depth meetings were held with the participation of professors Giuseppe Silvestri, Piero Buccheri and Alida Lo Coco.
Over the years, Onofrio Scialdone has coordinated the activities with the help of several colleagues, in particular Gianluca Scaccianoce and Marcella Cannarozzo, and the number of teachers involved has increased.
In addition, it was decided to extend the initiative to teachers from different areas of the university. At the meeting on 27 January 2016, the Quality Presidium proposed that the university officially launch the “Mentore per la didattica” programme.
During the session on 9 May 2016, the Academic Senate expressed a favourable opinion on the proposal to implement the “Mentore per la didattica” programme across the University’s five Schools. The Senate also mandated the University’s Quality Presidium to identify the modalities of implementing this initiative, with the support of a working group.
The group comprised professors Anna Napoli, Francesco Pace, Gianluca Scaccianoce and Onofrio Scialdone, as well as professor Marcella Cannarozzo, who coordinated the group.
Prof. Fabio Caradonna joined the Organising Committee in 2018, and Professors Maria Antonietta Ragusa and Davide Lo Presti joined in 2024.
In 2017, the number of participants reached 55.
For the 2024/25 academic year, there are 115 participants.
